How to evaluate business payment accounts

Start with the legal entity and money flow. Name who provides the payment account, which account details belong to the business, and which receipts and beneficiaries are permitted. An operational account can support processor settlements, suppliers and payroll, but player-facing acceptance requires its own approved arrangement.

Compare currency balances, named IBANs, payment rails, account permissions and statement exports. Model funding, FX, rejected payments and reconciliation using the actual entities and destinations. Provider onboarding and route availability do not authorise a gambling activity or expand its lawful market scope.

Ask how funds are protected and which obligations stay with the operator. EMI safeguarding differs from deposit insurance, and a provider’s protection of its own client does not automatically meet that client’s obligations toward players. Agree end-customer access, account segregation and any fund-protection arrangement explicitly.

Buyer questions, answered

Does a business payment account replace merchant acquiring?

An account can receive processor settlements and manage operational payments. Agree the separate player-payment acceptance relationship and permissions.

Is EMI safeguarding the same as deposit insurance?

No. The reviewed IFX material describes safeguarding and states that its EMI service is not covered by FSCS. Establish the provider and arrangement for the proposed account.

Does the account provider protect an operator’s player funds automatically?

IFX explicitly distinguishes safeguarding for its own clients from those clients’ duties when holding their customers’ funds. Scope the operator’s player-fund obligations separately.
